Introduced into the Olympics in 1992, the World Championships in 1987, the European Championships in 1986, and the Commonwealth Games in 1990.
In the Olympics from 1992-96 it was run over 10KM,in the World Championships from 1987-97 it was run over 10KM, in the European Championships from 1986-1998 it was run over 10KM and in the Commonwealth Games from 1990-98 was run over 10KM
